  • Introducing: Studebaker President Salon for 1964

“Introducing the luxurious Studebaker President Salon for 1964: elegant, spacious, capable, finely crafted; a motorcar for the truly discriminating.”

This design was among the sketched concepts I did about thirty years ago. A few years ago, after development of my watercolor/acrylic skills, I decided to render this design since it still appeals to me.

The layout is basically a Hawk 120.5 inch wheelbase chassis with a Y-Body Cruiser shell mounted to align with the rear wheel wells to rear axle. An additional seven inches is added to the front fenders and hood. Details include hidden quad headlights, die-cast grille, rear-hinged rear doors, 1947-’49 inspired license plate frame and winguards, door handle escutcheons, original 1953 Bourke concept design-inspired fender end inset taillights, Hawk and Lincoln Continental-inspired decklid/bumper unit.

Upholstery and trim would have been in the Cadillac Brougham/Lincoln Continental/Imperial LeBaron level: broadcloth, plush carpets, genuine walnut friezes, folding armrests front and rear, courtesy/reading lights, AM-FM stereo radio, complete power conveniences and air conditioning standard, of course.

Powertrain: 304 fuel injected V8, automatic transmission, power steering and power four wheel disk brakes, load-leveling independent rear suspension, radial tires.

    Nice fantasy, isn’t it?

I like it, looks Great! I am just not sure about the Cadillac look Rear, and Tail Lights, it needs some Lark or Hawk cues in the rear.

This could have been a 1967 Model from Canada, and shares some concepts with the actual '67 Prototypes Studebaker of Canada did.

As long as its a fantasy car I'll use my fantasy money to place an order in black cherry with matching leather interior, super charger, dual exhaust and wire wheels.
I'd rather be driving my Studebaker!

Very nice. Thank you for sharing. I like the "Cadillac" taillights - but if your rendering was made 30 years ago and Studebaker adopted them, they would now be known as Studebaker taillights. The 1953 concept car also had long taillights.

I see a lot of Rolls Royce in the right front door and right front fender, picture two.

Very nice use of the C/K chassis with a 4-door body. If only...!

I love these renderings! Although many of the lines scream Studebaker, if I was management I would have pushed for (wrongly) a return of Packard. Then it would have failed for just that reason even though Cadillac/Chevrolet, Ford/Lincoln & Plymouth/Imperials at this time all sharing body parts and styling cues with corporate resemblance. It would have been another bad marketing choice. Studebaker President Salon it is! Like the power train choice. "304" would have made a huge marketing advantage over "289". Size mattered back then! Great job. I love "what if" scenarios. Like to see more of this. Very professional looking. I will keep coming back to view.

                          Hi

Thanks for all your kind comments, it's a favorite concept for me as well. I must have been unusually inspired. I have a President convertible sketch somewhere, have to dig it out.

I "discovered" this post 8/19 and have been back every day to view these "concept" paintings. I just can't get them out of my head!
