“Introducing the luxurious Studebaker President Salon for 1964: elegant, spacious, capable, finely crafted; a motorcar for the truly discriminating.”
This design was among the sketched concepts I did about thirty years ago. A few years ago, after development of my watercolor/acrylic skills, I decided to render this design since it still appeals to me.
The layout is basically a Hawk 120.5 inch wheelbase chassis with a Y-Body Cruiser shell mounted to align with the rear wheel wells to rear axle. An additional seven inches is added to the front fenders and hood. Details include hidden quad headlights, die-cast grille, rear-hinged rear doors, 1947-’49 inspired license plate frame and winguards, door handle escutcheons, original 1953 Bourke concept design-inspired fender end inset taillights, Hawk and Lincoln Continental-inspired decklid/bumper unit.
Upholstery and trim would have been in the Cadillac Brougham/Lincoln Continental/Imperial LeBaron level: broadcloth, plush carpets, genuine walnut friezes, folding armrests front and rear, courtesy/reading lights, AM-FM stereo radio, complete power conveniences and air conditioning standard, of course.
Powertrain: 304 fuel injected V8, automatic transmission, power steering and power four wheel disk brakes, load-leveling independent rear suspension, radial tires.
Nice fantasy, isn’t it?
Steve
