Hello Everyone

Trying to help a member that has recently passed away. His family wanted to get the car running again. Can any one tell me the wiring from the distributor to the coil then to the solenoid on a 1959 Lark,6 cylinder? All the wires are disconnected. Does it also have a coil resistor? What size is the bolt that holds the distributor? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Jerry

Here are the Autolite and Delco Remy Wiring Diagrams used on '59 Lark VI's. (It will Probably be Autolite)
You can view them or Print them yourself at:

I can see that the White with Red Trace goes to the "S" small Start terminal Nut on the Solenoid mounted on the Starter on Both Systems. The Generator, Starter and Distributor will all have green Autolite Nameplates to I.D. it as such, or Not.

Dist. to Coil (-) Wire is Solid Black

Dist. (+) Terminal to Ignition Switch "Ign. Term." is Black with Green Trace.

There is a 8 or 10 Ga. Black Wire that powers up the whole Dash and the Voltage Reg. it goes with the very large battery Cable on the Solenoid.

The is no Resister on 6 Cyl. Cars.

The Dist. hold down Screw should be 1/2 Inch if not, use the correct size (7/16"?)

I believe the distributor hold down screw is 5/16" - 18 tpi

Went back to the car today. What wire goes to the "I" side of the solenoid? This wire is missing. Do you know how many wires are coming out of the distributor? This distributor had only one. Where does that wire go. I took it out and found out it was an Autolite. i ordered new points and condenser and coil. A wiring nightmare. Thanks again for all your help.

The "I" on the solenoid is for ignition ie (direct to the coil when cranking) where a bypass system is used
I don't believe your engine used that system. The solenoid must have been replaced.
