Am I correct in assuming that in order to remove the Stainless Steel Molding around the windshield of a 1962 Hawk the windshield must be removed? If so, how is the windshield removed? The service manual I have doesn't explain the removal of the Hawk windshield.

Yep, the windshield/rubber/moulding is all installed and removed as an assembly.

Easiest way is to cut the lip of the rubber on the inside of the car, then push the windshield out.

When replacing the windshield and seal it is VERY important to add extra sealant at the bottom corners (left & right) to help ensure a leak free seal at these difficult points.
How much extra sealant? The installer of my windshield (an old time second generation auto glass shop) did not add enough extra and had to remove and reinstall the windshield. Corky said there was about a 1/4 inch gap where the seal leaked (the lower corners).
There is/was a thread or three on this difficult to seal area. (try an "advanced search" at the top left of this page).
