View Full Version : 1957 golden hawk fins

OK everyone knows I have been looking for 57 fins. Everyone knows about the big auction in Ohio this weekend. They have a 58 golden hawk shell that has fins with it but they look different from any I have seen.
57 comes to a point 56 are chopped off up front and the fins in Ohio follow the body line and never turn up to a point. I'm confused and want to get it correct. Thanks Rick

I haven't seen pix of the auction in OH, but, just for the record: (1) The fins on 1957 and '58 Golden Hawks are identical. The stainless steel trim pieces on them are mirror images of each other (or at least appear to be). These fins are steel stampings, as are those for '57-59 Silver Hawks and '60-61 Hawks. The front of this stamping is a little different for these "lesser" Hawks than for the '57-8 Golden Hawks, but otherwise they all use essentially the same stamping. (2) The '56 Golden Hawk fins are entirely different than the '57-61 fins. They are made of fiberglass and are not nearly as tall. They have a simulated air intake in front.

I didn't see the auction picture, but your description sounds more like a Silver Hawk than a Golden Hawk. To some people, all Hawks of this vintage are Golden Hawks (especially if they are gold in color).

I always say: "Golden Hawks get the full Bullet, Silver Hawks a Half Bullet". ;)

Unlike the G. Hawks 57-8 Silver Hawk fins were straight on bottom & upper fwd. end swooped down to meet bottom at a point.
