I retired from General Electric today with 32 1/2 years service. I started there 44 years ago, had several breaks in service due to lay offs and career side tracks.
I drove the same car to work on my first day and my last day. It looked like the first picture when I bought it in 1972. The second and third pictures were taken today.

Wow that's cool! I wonder if my Dad did the same thing when he retired as I think he had his 54C the first day he started his life-long career with Kenwoth and it was still running and registered on his retirement day too. Congratulations and enjoy your retirement years! Junior

I think your car looks even better after all these years. I hope that applies to you as well. Happy retirement!

And the car definitely looks better than it did in '72. Doubtless you spared it the daily grind of baking and battering in that lot for most of those 44 years. Early Starliners are still a class act!

Amazing loyalty to your Studebaker and G.E. You're definitely a member of a very exclusive club. Impressive!

Thanks for the congrats and kind words everyone. I did not own the car continuously. I bought it in 1972, sold it in 1978. Always regretted letting it go. I was able to buy it back in 2002. It had sat untouched in my friends garage for 24 years. I plan to keep it this time 'til I'm too old to drive it.
Bill, I bought the grill bars 39 years after buying the car the first time!

Ahhh..., Saturday is the day my wife expects me to get everything done! :D

Not sure what is more surprising, the Studebaker or GE lasting until the end. But glad to hear it was a good relationship both ways.

Dwight,

Congratulations on both your retirement and driving the same car as you did on the first day of employment with GE. Not many people can say they did that. Also, enjoy your retirement and if I can share with you just one piece of advice, get involved in the things you like and stay busy and you will live for a very longtime.

I have to agree with Ed. Keeping any job nowadays for any length of time is an accomplishment in and of itself. Best of everything with your retirement. Do keep busy in order to enjoy that retirement as long as possible.
