  • transmission question

Did the later Avanti ever have an automatic transmission with an overdrive, like the 700R4?

Yes. I believe 1983 was the first year (I had one). I don't remember it being a 700R4.

My 83 had a 700R4 from the factory. it now has a 2004R. Shifter is set up to indicate the OD. No reason one couldn't be retrofitted back to the earlier SBC models easily. Bob

I know of two '82s with OD. One is a 700R4, the other a 2004R.

There really aren't any rules for the Newman Altman cars.

Thanks Guys, would anyone know where to get an Overdrive "quardant", as the shop manual calls it.

Also ask Dan about the OD shifter vs the 3-speed. I'm not sure but you may need one more detent if you have the old shifter. Bob
