  • Celebrity owned Studebakers.

I wad just reading the thread about Aunt B's 66 Datona and the linked threads and was just wondering what other celebrity owned Studebakers are out there, past or present.
I'd rather be driving my Studebaker!

You might want to take a look at my TW Almanac column for July 2003. The 3 page article lists about 50 notables with photos of several.

I think Alice Cooper owned or owns an Avanti. I believe my father has talked with him.

Recently Alice Cooper purchased a white 1963 Avanti from the classic car dealership here in Newberg Oregon. One of our local repair shops did some work on it before it was put on a truck and taken to his home in Arizona.

How does Mr. Van Dyke stand so much automotive coolness? An Avanti plus a c.1910 Paragon Panther!
1963 Champ "Stu Bludebaker"- sometimes driver
1957 Silver Hawk "Josie"- picking up the pieces after an unreliable body man let it rot for 11 years from an almost driver to a basket case
1951 Land Cruiser "Bunnie Ketcher" only 47M miles!
1951 Commander Starlight "Dale"- basket case
                1947 Champion "Sally"- basket case
1941 Commander Land Cruiser "Ursula"- basket case

Nearly all the cars on that list above are pre WW2 or Avanti's. I guess except for the Avanti Studebakers had fallen out of favor with the celebrity class. Does anyone know if J Leno, owns a Studebaker? I'm always looking in the background when I watch J Leno's garage but I've never seen one. I've even left comments on his YouTube page for him to do a Studebaker any Studebaker but I guess I'm just a voice in the wilderness.

Thirties actress Jeanette MacDonald. In the late sixties, I often saw her '56 Golden Hawk in the shop at Frost & French in LA. That was a couple of years following her death. Car was then driven by her husband, actor Gene Raymond. Raymond had been host of the TV Reader's Digest sponsored by Studebaker in '56. He did a lot of the Studebaker, Packard and Clipper commercials. Guessing he got a heck of a deal on that car in '56.

Sly always knew how to catch your eye. Whenever I drive my GT I get a kick out of watching peoples heads turn to look.

Only Richard Quinn could have generated this great compilation, going back to U.S. Grant! Looking closely, I saw Herb Shriner's name, remembered it for the wrong reasons. Still recall the day news came that he and his wife had died in the crash of his Avanti. Apparently brake failure. It was claimed that he had been working on the brakes shortly before.

Here is the '62 GT Hawk that Studebaker gave to Mr. Ed TV Show Star, Alan Young:
