  • Electrical: 1962 Hawk Wiper Switch

My wiper switch is getting tired and touchy. If I fiddle with it enough I can get the wipers to work and to park correctly when they shut off but it has been getting harder and harder to use over the last few years.

I have a black knobbed unit, and what I see available as replacements are the white knobbed units from later ('63, '64) years. So, several questions:

    1) Is there any functional difference between the later units and the '62 switch?
    2) If not, can the molded plastic knob be removed and put on a newer unit?
    3) Has anyone tried to go into one of these switches and repair it? If so, are there any pearls of wisdom to share in rebuilding it?

Thanks - I have always had very good luck coming to the forum for responses and appreciate the time everyone puts in to sharing the knowledge needed to keep our cars on the road.

There is a tutoral on how to take Studebaker switches apart and repair them on Chuck Collins Studebakerparts.com website (help page) which can be found
at this link: https://www.studebakerparts.com/stud...switchfix.html (I even contributed a bit to the help page),

Also you should be able to find a NOS switch, part number 1544275, from several Studebaker parts vendors.
