This seller may have got the "patina" thing right (as opposed to just rust), but $9,900.00? To this poor boy that seems like an awfully high starting bid for a truck with rust across the hood and many unknowns. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1950-Studebaker-R2-Pickup-/272678465559?hash=item3f7ce73017:g:O6gAAOSwjqVZG099&vxp=mtr

Some people see old trucks as goldmines.

Especially in Germany.
IF you can a car like this, the price starts at 15,000.00 $ and goes up to 25,000.00$

I always thought the word 'patina' was code for too broke to do body work....

Same for "rat rod," and any number of euphemisms to describe societal "laziness" these days. Some of the highly patina(-ed) offerings are well on their way to becoming "One With the Earth" again. A dusting over the rust with clear-coat, and a little rubbing of wax will only delay the inevitable.:(

It is one thing to present something as a way to give it "THE LOOK," but entirely another to try and con your circle of acquaintances into thinking mediocrity is a highly valued achievement.:rolleyes:

Looks like a good solid truck to use as a base. He would be hard pressed to get 10 grand for it if it was restored let alone in the shape it's in. Swifster you are correct and for most also includes make it safe to drive.

The patina reference was because it actually has a worn, but usable appearance. Too often "patina" is misused as a term for rusty junk. The truck looks like the kind I would like to have, but not at that buy in. I notice that the seller's name ends in "motors" and probably means he is a dealer hoping to find a barefoot pilgrim with cash.

I should offer him my '66 Cruiser with patina for $8,000. That sounds about right. No, wait, his truck has only two doors and mine has four. Make it $18,000.

Actually with the recent auction results this may represent the new levels for Studebaker evaluation. Better snap up all the cheap ones without delay!:)

Looks like a lot of body hammer tracks on the inside of the cab and bondo falling off under the rear window. Wonder what would be left when the rest of it falls out.

Not quite sure of what to make of the whole patina craze… My daily driver is a 56 chevy pu with original blue -rust paint, fake weathered speed shop signage on the doors. Its all new underneath 406 tremec 5spd etc. I also have a 57 chevy big window pu ,very expensive paint , all new chrome, oak bed wood all the bells and whistles……guess which truck gets the most looks and feedback? I think with a lot of people it reminds them of their grandpa's truck or something along those lines:)

You are attaching morality to a choice of finishes. It's just not a moral question.

That is not a surprise. Shiny is common, looking like grandpa's truck if he ever had one feels cool to folks.
