Key Codes - 63 Avanti?

I always assumed the two four-digit numbers ("Ign. Key Number" and "Trunk Key No.") on the Production Order for my Avanti were sufficient to have new keys cut. Wrong. Went to an old-time locksmith who showed me his key code book. All Studebaker key codes started with a letter followed by a 5 digit (I think) number.

What am I missing here? Is there some kind of code for the code?

I know someone out there has the answer.

When I got my '64 Avanti, S/N R5407, in 1989 I got no glove comp. key with it. I ordered the production order and took the 4-digit key code to my local locksmith. He looked it up in a dusty old book and made me several keys, which work properly. Incidentally, my '64 Avanti was built with '63 locks. The keys look entirely different than '64 locks. That's all I know about it; I hope it helps.
