  • Fuel System: What's going on with this spring?

    63 Avanti R2, This car runs well, but never drops below 2000 rpm even when hot. The choke operates fine. the idle never recedes after warmup
    This picture shows a hairspring wrapped around the high idle cam.
    Does this look out of place? The pic was taken after the engine cooled down

    Does the idle cam drop down to the low position when the engine is warmed up? If so, then the screw needs to be backed off, or the throttle plates are binding.

      To answer your question, that is how the spring is positioned normally. if it is warm, and un-choked, the link from the choke plate should move the fast idle cam back so the screw isn't on the ramp. When the choke is set like in your picture, the fast idle at the index mark like shown, you should have the primary throttle open .022 with a wire gauge.
