Mystery V8 Engine, pics

A while back I went to look at some 'car parts' for sale including an 'unknown V8 engine'. I was hoping to find a Stude or maybe a Packard engine. Instead, I got an 'unknown' overhead cam V8 engine, complete except for intake and exhaust manifolds. Seller said he was told by an 'expert' that it was a Stag engine. It is not. I do think it might be British, but there is nothing on the engine to ID it. I did find a sticker that said 'Haynes'. The only Haynes I know of was an early 20th century car. The Haynes logo on the stand looks to be same as the repair manual folks.

How do you sonic test that engine for cylinder wall thickness? <G>

And I thought it was the long lost Studebaker Electric Hybrid Experimental engine that was going to save Studebaker in the late 70s when they were going out of business in Mexico.
