No, no normally aspirated Offy ever made anywhere near 1,000 horsepower, so that statement is just flat incorrect.

Yes, many years later, some of the better turbos did make 1,000, but out of the smallest four-cylinders.


Today, the Offenhauser name lives on and the company still produces parts for hot rod and custom cars.

Interesting photo of the finned aluminum rocker covers. They are drilled for the early Olds V8 which used four perimeter hold-down bolts, but appear to be sitting on an early Studebaker V8 which used four center bolt hold downs.

Alan, you could be right. I just glanced at the four-bolt water inlet on the front.

The dead give away is the cast boss for the dip stick on the left angled toward the front. And the 3, 3/8" taper pipe plug holes along the side.

Studes have three bolts in the center exhaust hump on the head.
